Walking Where Jesus Walked

Today we begin a four week series that will take us to the end of our stay in this building. Each week, guest speakers with close ties to First Christian, will help us prepare for the future at our new North Miles campus. Greg Allen is the ideal person to start this series. He has seen amazing results when united believers make themselves available to do God’s work. Greg has been a staff member at Southeast Christian Church for 30 years, serving as student minister, worship leader, and now Southeast’s Oldham Campus pastor. During this time Southeast has grown to one of the largest churches in the country, with a weekend worship attendance of over 20,000 people. Today is a homecoming for Greg. He grew up in Elizabethtown, was a member of First Christian Church, and graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1979. He and his wife, Laurie, were married in this building in 1984 while it was the home of Severns Valley Baptist Church. They have three daughters—Chelsea, Macie, and Chloe. Bob Russell, retired Senior Minister of Southeast Christian, wrote this about Greg’s ability as a worship leader. “Greg’s character shines through when he leads in a way that few others do because he is genuinely concerned about leading people to God.” (When God Builds a Church) First Christian Church is pleased to welcome Greg home. We look forward to hearing his thoughts about what can happen when people are chosen by God to do a great work.

Embrace Your Place

Today, we are in week two of a four-week series that will take us to the end of our stay in this building. This week, our guest speaker will take us closer to our move to new church home at our new North Miles campus. Donnie joined the staff of the Owensboro Christian Church in 1996 and has served in a variety of roles during the past 16 years. Presently, he serves as the Executive Pastor of Administration (which includes finances, the facility, and the office). Donnie graduated from Cincinnati Bible College in 1984 and married his wife Sandy the same year. Sandy graduated from CBC also in 1984 with a degree in Christian Education and Journalism. Donnie and Sandy are blessed with two daughters, Stephanie and Kelly, and one grandchild, Aiden. Donnie enjoys encouraging and helping others to achieve their God-given potential in Jesus Christ. First Christian Church is pleased to welcome Donnie to our Sunday morning time together. We are excited to hear his thoughts and encouragement about what can happen when people find their God-given potential and share their gifts to do a great work.

Invest, Invest, Invest

Week three of Kingdom Feet marks the return of Dale McCamish to First Christian Church. Dale grew up in Elizabethtown and he’s proud to call First Christian his home church. Currently, Dale is serving in the capacity of Senior Minister at Wilmington Church of Christ in Ohio. While in high school, Dale felt an increasing desire to preach Jesus and that desire has never left him. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University. After graduating, he married Carrie Edlin from E’town, and began to work in full time ministry at both the Glendale Christian Church and here at FCC. During that time, Dale and Carrie brought three beautiful children into the world, two boys and a girl. Dale continued his education while in the ministry attaining his MA in New Testament from Johnson University. He served as the children’s minister here at FCC before the desire to preach began to intensify and caused him to seek a change in his ministry. After seven years on staff at FCC, Dale was called into his Senior Minister position in Wilmington more than three years ago. Dale loves that God’s grace not only grants salvation, but also transforms and teaches us to be like Jesus. It is to this end that Dale continues to preach – that we may be changed by God’s power to look more and more like Jesus. This morning Dale will be speaking from 1 Thessalonians 2:8 from which he’ll challenge us to invest our life into someone else.

Kingdom Feet

We are thrilled to welcome Ron Davidson back home today. Ron served as our worship leader/choir director from 1996-1998. His talented wife, Lynette, joined him on stage along with their two sons, Matt and Luke. Sadly, Matt passed away last year after an automobile accident, but his light of faith still shines through his memory and in the lives of his family. Ron’s younger son, Luke, is currently on the preaching/teaching team at Compass Christian Church in Dallas, Texas. Lynette is a retired teacher from Jefferson County Public Schools. Since his time here at First Christian, Ron has served in worship and/or senior ministry positions at Kenwood Heights Christian Church and Fairdale Christian Church, both in Louisville. Presently, Ron is an orchestra director for the Jefferson County Public Schools and a part-time associate minister at Lincoln Hills Christian Church in Corydon, Indiana. Ron and Lynette have five grandchildren they love to spoil, and in their “free time” they enjoy raising and showing American Quarter Horses. Music is not only Ron’s chosen profession, but also his hobby and passion. He performs with the Louisville Philharmonic, plays worship music, and entertains as a jazz musician whenever he gets the chance. Ron has spent all of his life praising the Lord through music and ministry. We were fortunate to have him in that position in the late nineties and so glad to welcome him back today as we celebrate our last Sunday meeting in Elizabethtown Christian Academy’s facility.
